Bookshop “Acqua Alta” – Santa Maria Formosa District
A fascinating book and curiosity shop crammed with the unexpected. Inside, a gondola filled with new and used books, an emergency exit that opens straight into a canal, books used as shelves and staircases that lead you to a view beyond the courtyard wall. You may well come across a team of neighbourhood cats snoozing among the second-hand pages and bindings. These are some of the memorable images that have struck visitors of the “Acqua Alta” bookshop located between Santa Maria Formosa and Campo San Giovanni e Paolo and rated one of the 10 most beautiful bookshops in the world by the BBC.

CD Shops “Il Tempio della Musica” – Rialto District
At the “Tempio della Musica” you can find contemporary and classical music. They have the best Vivaldi and Monteverdi recordings, and a good selection of opera and jazz music – even some Venetian folk songs you may have heard the gondoliers sing.

Rialto Market
In the vast and richly coloured Rialto food market (fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat, amongst other things ) you’ll find everything if you’re prepared to look carefully enough. We recommend the “Mascari” grocery store for its spices, dried fruit, teas, wines, liquors, sweets and whatever other delicacy takes your fancy.

In the same street as the bookshop “Acqua Alta” there’s a small and well-stocked DVD shop selling films, documentaries about Venice, cartoons etc. They also sell E-cigarettes and liquids.

Night Life: clubs and dancing
It’s very difficult to run nightclubs in a city like Venice, the nightlife revolves mainly around bars and restaurants with music rather than clubs and dancing, with one, very small exception.
